This would be the first
course of its kind in T&T and the following modules would be done:-

Theoretical Approaches of Child and Adolescent Counselling –
three (3) credits

Applied Techniques in Child and Adolescent Counselling –
three (3) credits
·
Psychological Issues of Children and Adolescents – three (3)
credits
·
HIV/AIDS and Substance Abuse – three (3) credits
·
Ethical and Cultural Issues in Child and Adolescent
Counselling – three (3) credits
·
Assessment and Referrals in Child and Adolescent Counselling
– three (3) credits
·
Practicum – student field placement – six (6) credits
BENEFITS OF THIS COURSE
o To provide participants
with the opportunity to develop and broaden their theoretical knowledge of
Child and Adolescent Counselling by being exposed to several theories.
o For participants to
identify and understand several current Social and Psychological issues facing
Children and Adolescents in today’s society.
o To equip participants with
the necessary tools so that they could develop assessment capabilities that
could lead to referrals to the appropriate professionals.
o For participants to better
understand the different Ethical and Cultural aspects of Child and Adolescent
Counselling.
o To provide participants
with causes, statistics and psycho-social effects of HIV / AIDS and substance
abuse upon the lives of children and adolescents.
o To provide theoretical and
practical opportunities for the participants to develop within themselves the
specific Skills and Techniques of Child & Adolescent Counselling.

Parents wants to reduce this stress and let their child live a tension free life. For this they provides child counselling sessions to their child. Hence seeing the scenario the need child counsellor experts have increased. Encouraging child problem counselling education is a worth praising task.
