1.1   Purpose

     ENSAFE: INSTITUTE FOR HEALTH, SAFETY & COUNSELLING TRAINING LTD has a policy of ensuring that fair treatment is meted out to students as well as staff members. In regards to this view, this institution follows the Trinidad and Tobago Equal Opportunity Act, 2000 Chapter 88.08 and the Offences Against the Person (Amendment) (Harassment) Act, 2005.
     ENSAFE: INSTITUTE FOR HEALTH, SAFETY & COUNSELLING TRAINING LTD aims to provide a welcoming, supportive and emotional and physical secure learning and working environment for every member of the institution. ENSAFE: INSTITUTE FOR HEALTH, SAFETY & COUNSELLING TRAINING LTD recognizes and promotes human rights and values the diversity of culture, beliefs, practices, customs, physical and intellectual abilities and life experience of the institution. In doing so we seek to deepen understanding and knowledge, promote student and staff’s well being and help everyone achieve their full potential.

This policy has been created to ensure that everyone would be able to study/work/practice in an environment free from discrimination, victimisation, sexual harassment and vilification. This institution considers these behaviours to be unacceptable and will not be tolerated under any circumstances. In view of this, all are treated based on their merits, without regard to race, age, sex, relationship status or any other factor.

2.     Procedure


Step 1         The institution is a co-educational one and does not discriminate according to gender.

Step 2         The institution provides a reasonably safe environment conducive to work/study for students and staff members.

Step 3         The institution does not condone discrimination due to any of the following: age, race, impairment, (students who are visually challenged, the institution can have manuals converted to Braille texts. Students who ADDH or dyslexic, the institution can reduce the manuals to PowerPoint Presentations. Students with reading and writing difficulty, the institution can facilitate them by allowing them to undertake oral exams instead of written ones), religious belief/activity, political belief/activity, trade union activity, sexual orientation, relationship status, pregnancy, breastfeeding, parental status, family responsibilities or association with any person with any of the attributes aforementioned.

Step 4         The institution will treat any reports on discrimination/harassment/vilification seriously and will investigate such reports promptly, confidentially and impartially.

Step 5         Disciplinary action will be taken against anyone who discriminates against, victimises, sexually harasses or vilifies either students or members of staff.

Step 6         Action can be taken using the steps found in the Resolving Problems Procedure
